On Wednesday, April 3rd, Butler Downtown will host an informational workshop for business owners/managers on the benefits of television advertising. The session will be led by Donna Newsom and Jim Talarico from Comcast Spotlight.

“Comcast Spotlight’s mission is to make the complex simple. Audiences are fragmented: watching content from multiple networks, on more devices and subscribing to different communications providers. The good news? We’re the experts in fragmentation, assembling the audience you want to reach, where and when they’re watching TV.”

Pop-Up Shop Contest

Butler Downtown is excited to announce our first ever Pop-Up Shop Contest! Pop-up shops are temporary retail stores that literally “pop-up” one day and are gone some day in the future. Our hope though is that the stores may become permanent fixtures in our downtown.

Butler Downtown will award the top two applicants with a rent-free storefront in downtown Butler for three months this summer, June, July & August. Ideal candidates are people who have always wanted to open a specific business. Maybe they already dabble in that business from their home or maybe they have a business and want to open a second location. Or maybe they just have a great concept. One note, our vacant storefronts do not have commercial kitchen space. We are looking for retail or service only.

Focused Fitness Bunny Run

On Saturday, March 23rd, Focused Fitness will hold its 1st Annual One Mile Bunny Run. The race will begin at 11:30 a.m. and should be over around noon. Bunny earred racers will be running on the downtown sidewalks of Main Street, McKean Street, Cunningham Street, and Penn Street. Drivers should be alert during this half hour fun run.

The One Mile Bunny Run will benefit the Make a Wish Foundation. Race day registration is from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Focused Fitness (127 E. Cunningham St.) Cost to participate is $30, cash only. For more information check out the Focused Fitness website.

Butler Downtown Announces 2013 Board of Directors

Butler Downtown has selected its 2013 Board Executive Officers. The executive officers are Tom Panei, President, Bob Dandoy, Vice President, Meredith Glendening, 2^nd Vice President, Stan Kosciuszko, Treasurer, and Jonathan Dreher, Immediate Past-President. Additionally, four new members have joined the board of Butler Downtown beginning January 1, 2013. The new board members are Ray Conlon of Conlon Tarker, Barry Cummings of Cummings Candy & Coffee, Aaron Hicks of Nosh Ice Cream and Sweets, and Mike Johnson of the Butler YMCA. Other board members include Cathy Glasgow, Keith Graham, Thomas Graham, Richard Maharg, John Mossman, and Eileen Stroup. Board members each serve a three-year term.

The 2013 Butler Downtown Board of Directors held its first ever retreat on Saturday, January 26^th. A large portion of the day was spent discussing a new 5-year strategy, since Butler Downtown is coming to the end of its first five years. The board consists of a diverse group of community-minded professionals eager to work with City administrators, downtown businesses and organizations, and area residents to create a more vibrant downtown commercial district.
