Becky Smith

Please join us in mourning the loss of our Main Street Manager, Becky Smith.

Rebecca Lynn "Becky" Smith, 30, lost her life on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011 after being injured in an automobile accident. Becky was born on July 23, 1981, in Warren, to Robert and Carolyn Creech Smith.  She grew up in Cortland, where she graduated with honors from Lakeview High School in 1999. After high school, she went on to Kent State University, where she was a member of the dance team. It was there in 2003 that she earned a magna cum laude Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design.

She worked in various positions at GF Office Furniture, AVI Foodsystems and Smith Architects. After receiving her Masters of Historic Preservation from Youngstown State University, Becky proudly moved to Butler, Pa., where she held the title of Main Street Manager. Becky's dream was to save historic buildings and bring struggling downtowns back to life.  Becky did volunteer work for Cortland's historical district, the Warren Main Street program, Warren Grows, Youngstown CityScape, Butler Downtown, and the Big Sisters program. She was also a member of the Trumbull County Historical Society. Becky had a strong eye for design and fashion. She loved her family and friends, dance and history.

Becky will be deeply missed by her parents, Robert and Carolyn Smith of Warren; her sister and brother-in-law, Carrie and Pasquale LaRocca of Canfield; her grandmother, Mary Smith of Warren; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, William Smith and Harrison and Amy Creech.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, 9/27, and 9 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, 9/30, at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel, 1884 North Road N.E., Warren, Ohio 44483. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday St. Mary's Church, 301 High St., NE, Warren, Ohio 44481, with the Rev. Bernard Schmalzried officiating. Burial will be in Kerr Cemetery in Weathersfield Township.

In lieu of flowers, a fund is established to benefit historical preservation in Trumbull County and Butler, Pa. Donations can be directed to Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel.

Butler Downtown & Butler County Chamber of Commerce along with the City of Butler Mayor Maggie Stock will be holding a memorial service and luncheon on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. at Butler's Grand Ballroom, 201 S. Main St., Butler, PA 16001. To RSVP, please call 724-283-2222.
